Title: The Wicked Will Rise

Author: Danielle Paige

# in series: 2nd book in the Dorothy Must Die SERIES

# of pages: 293

My rating: 3/5 stars

First off I just figured out that this series is indeed a series and not a trilogy, so yah.

Okay so this book was so short. Like did I somehow buy half the book? The first book was twice the size of this and the third one is even shorter. I haven’t read the third book yet but I already feel like they should just combine it with this one because of how short they are.

I did love that this book has a very strong journey of self-discovery. Amy goes through so much in the first book and in this one she works very hard to try and find herself. The whole struggle that is just internal added to the story.

The romance in this book, was it even a romance? In my review of the first book I mentioned that there was no real romance and how much I enjoyed that but I figured that in the second book that would pick up a little more and it did, kind of? The entire relationship between Amy and her love interest felt like it was put in later. There were moments that felt like they were going to somewhere but never quite reached their destination.

There were some great action scenes though and I loved every battle scene and watching the magic grow with Amy as the story progressed. All of the times that she was fighting something you would have a great mixture of the internal battle as well as the fight she was in.

Pacing was much better in this book, there were some slow moments but it did not follow the choppy complex that the first book did. It had a better flow to it that followed the natural progression that books usually follow.

Overall it was a pretty good read but was so tiny that it was over before it started.
