(From Goodreads)

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

my-review

I don’t even know where to begin with this review. This book amazed me and was fantastic and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.

Starting with the incredible storyline, Maniscalco weaves a dark and mysterious tale that focuses on the infamous Jack the Ripper. I was hooked from the first sentence and could not put it down. We follow the feminist, intellectual known as Audrey Rose and her attempts to discover the murderer while dealing with societies standards. I loved this. Not only did it challenge old notions but it was hilarious and amazing to see her battle it out with the opposite gender.

Then there are the other characters who created and helped make the story. We have the obvious fan favorite of Thomas, who is dark and broody and someone who you couldn’t help but love no matter how hard you tried not to. Audrey and him paired up with her eccentric uncle created a fantastical cast that brought all the humor and intrigue to the story.

This dark and yet captivating read was so unique and it’s truly hard to think of something to say without spoiling any of the amazing plot. That being said I can talk about Maniscalco’s writing which was vivid and insightful. It wasn’t hard to be swept up in her writing and feel an instant connection to the story.

Overall I loved this book and I think I may reread it immediately because it captivated me that much.
