December Wrap Up and January 2018 TBR

2017 is over! It feels like 2017 flew by and I managed to do so much and definitely read a lot. In December, my finals ended pretty early in the month so I had lots of time for reading and I think this was my best reading month for the year. I did decide to read a couple mangas because I realized I was really close to hitting 200 for the year and really wanted to reach that goal. I read an insane 36 books this month and I do not even know how that was possible.  Anyways let’s get into what I read in December.

wrap-up

Mistress of All Evil by Serena Valentino

JKT_Mistress-of-All-Evil_FINAL2-750x971.jpgMy friend and I decided to buddy read this series and I didn’t really know much about them but he was really excited and I’m glad he talked me into them because they were pretty great.

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

32718027This was November’s PageHabit Fantasy book and I had been dying for it to come out so when I finally got my hands on a copy I was excited. This was a pretty great read and I cannot wait for the rest of the trilogy.

4/5 stars

Warcross by Marie Lu

29385546Another book that I was super excited to read and I have to say that Marie Lu has never disappointed me with her books. This one was incredible and I read it pretty recently after Ready Player One and I am surprised by how much I enjoy these gaming designed books.

4.5/5 stars

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

astudyincharlotte.jpgI thought that I was going to enjoy this book since it was a Sherlock retelling but I was really disappointed by it and almost didn’t finish it.

2/5 stars

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

81hZPqv7zvL.jpgThis took me way too long to finally pick up but I am glad I did since I really enjoyed it. I just started the TV show and have only watched a few episodes but I really enjoyed it so far.

4/5 stars

Midnight Jewel by Richelle Mead

fullpageRichelle Mead has easily been an auto read author for me so when this came out I picked it up and finally read it. This was a really good installment in this series and I think I enjoyed it more than the first.

3.5/5 stars

Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A. Abbott

433567.jpgOkay I know this is a pretty random book to have read but my younger brother had to read it for school, so I offered to read it with him. I don’t really know how I feel about this book but it was nice to get my brother to read a little more.

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

download-1I cannot believe I put off reading this book for so long. I read the first book in the duology, The Star-Touched Queen, earlier in the year and while I enjoyed that one I loved this one.

5/5 stars

Shadowsong by S. Jae-Jones

1fa42fc4-81b2-4436-a893-8a98207d116c-shadowsong_coverI was so incredibly lucky to be able to receive an ARC of this book and I was in love. This book was incredible and if you haven’t started this duology I would highly recommend this.

5/5 stars

The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris

33784349.jpgAnother buddy read by my friend and I am so glad we decided to read this because it was an adorable middle grade read.

3.5/5 stars

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur

9781449474256_p0_v11_s1200x630.jpgAfter seeing this around on bookstagram for what feels like forever, I finally picked it up and I am so glad I did since it was a really great read even though I don’t usually read poetry.

4/5 stars

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen

27426044This is such an underrated book that I think deserves some more hype. It is an insanely interesting sci-fi that is full of diversity.

3.5/5 stars

Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman

21936937.jpgI picked this up on a whim after the author showed up at a book signing I went to, and while I enjoyed the idea of it I thought this story was going to involve more pirates and instead it felt more like a romance.

3/5 stars

Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them: The Illustrated Edition by J.K. Rowling

9781338216790_p0_v4_s550x406This was such a beautiful illustrated edition and I loved being able to flip through it and look at all the beautiful illustrations that show all the fantastic beasts.

4/5 stars

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

13455782.jpgThis was obviously a reread since her new books in this series are coming out in March I wanted to reread them beforehand.

4.5/5 stars

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde

28245707.jpgI thought that I was really going to enjoy this read but I didn’t really like the writing style and the execution felt a little disjointed.

2.5/5 stars

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

51pfACcbtkL._SX323_BO1,204,203,200_I finally read this! I have been dying to since I finished the trilogy earlier in the year. The trilogy was hit or miss but I did enjoy this book.

4/5 stars

Grave Mercy by Robin LeFevers

downloadI got this at a library book sale and randomly decided to pick it up and again this was another book I wasn’t anticipating to enjoy so much. This is also underhyped since I don’t see anyone talking about it but it was really good.

4/5 stars

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Yellowwp_med.jpgThis was another reread but I really wanted to reach 200 and I remembered really enjoying this short story and that hasn’t changed. I am so happy that I decided to reread it.

4/5 stars

Wires and Nerves, Volume 1 by Marissa Meyer

51ukRjPRhNL._SX351_BO1,204,203,200_.jpgI got this for Christmas and its a quick but exciting read. I am so excited that we have more from this world because I loved this world so much.

4/5 stars

Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda

519V+msUN3L._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpgI am obsessed with Hamilton so flipping through this and seeing all the amazing photos and reading some backstory behind lyrics and such was so exciting.

4/5 stars

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

13618440.jpgThis may cause an uproar since I probably have the most unpopular opinion ever when it comes to this series but I didn’t really enjoy this book. I remember reading the first one and really enjoying it but the second was hard to finish and this one was almost impossible. I really didn’t like this trilogy.

2/5 stars

When Did You See Her Last? by Lemony Snicket

cover-book2Again I really wanted to reach my reading goal so I read some more Lemony Snicket books and these were interesting but I still liked his A Series of Unfortunate Events better.

3/5 stars

 Frostfire by Amanda Hocking

1d30528254c4ea9441ef92d09b6598abI picked this up one night while I was bored and I didn’t really enjoy this either. It was a companion to another series by her and those were okay but this one was less than those.

2/5 stars

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

final-empireI absolutely loved this book and cannot believe that I waited so long before reading it. This series is so unique and interesting and I need to finish it soon.

5/5 stars

Shouldn’t You Be In School? by Lemony Snicket

downloadAgain these were pretty interesting and I will probably read the last one such to finish up the series but they weren’t my favorite.

3/5 stars

Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers

DARK_TRIUMPH_HJ1.jpgI ended up marathoning this series because it was so great and even though each book is from a different perspective I still found it really enjoyable.

3.5/5 stars

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers

download-1.jpgThis was a great conclusion and I really enjoyed the different take that this installment had. Overall this was a great trilogy.

4/5 stars

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

b5e1ea5031b91eb1e507dc74316869ce.jpgThis is witty and hilarious and such a quick read that I am so glad I picked it up for a reread.

4/5 stars

Full Metal Alchemist Vol 4-8

images.jpgI am compiling these all together although they were read individually because they are a collection and I do not have much to say about them. These are what finally made me reach my reading goal and they were pretty interesting.

A Christmas Carol: The Junior Novel

51KwdypSRML._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_.jpgThis was such a quick and great read for around Christmas time and I forgot how much I enjoyed this story.

4/5 stars

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

31450852I read this on a whim and while it wasn’t horrible I am still convinced this was an unnecessary installment to the series. It was enjoyable but I feel like it could have been condensed easily and added to the final book instead of being its own massive read.

I loved Grave Mercy but couldn’t get into Dark Truimph. You read lots of books this month that are currently sitting on my shelf, including Nyxia and The City of Brass, partly because I haven’t heard anyone say anything about them! So I’m really glad you enjoyed them. Of your January TBR, I’ve only read Falling Kingdoms and it was brilliant! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Dark Triumph wasn’t my favorite in the series but I still enjoyed the others. Yes Nyxia and City of Brass are so underrated, especially for such new releases! Hopefully you will enjoy them. I hope I love Falling Kingdoms because I keep hearing people talk about it.
